DON’T MISS THIS ONE!

As I was on my way to the Bob Hope Airport the other day, I saw an interesting building tucked just off Hollywood Way, virtually next to the Burbank Post Office.  I nearly screeched my brakes when I realized that this is where we will have our next event.  I can hardly wait to see what’s inside that facility!  If you haven’t already made your reservation for when we take a peek “Behind the Curtain” to learn and see the wizardry that is Ascent Media Group, you better hurry.  We have a limited amount of space still available and we want you there!

If you aren’t already aware of it, Ascent Media Group has a very strong reputation in the entertainment industry.  At last count, the creative talents within Ascent have been recognized with over 15 Academy Awards and 22 Emmy Awards, making them a world-wide leader in providing media services such as telecine, online and offline editing, visual effects,  sound editorial and mixing, distribution to foreign broadcast, video on demand and  much more!  This is a great opportunity for our San Fernando Chapter to see the “state of the art facility” our sponsor HOK has designed for this leading-edge company.  We thank our Programming Chair, Holly Rau-Bhattacharya, who has arranged this not-to-be-missed event at:
Ascent Media - 2130 Hollywood Way, Burbank, CA
Tuesday, September 12th, 6-8 pm See you there!

THE BIG RAFFLE
!

We are now in the home stretch for our “Win Free World Workplace 2006 Registration.”

It was at our July event that we began the drawing entry process. We added entries for those attending our August event and will add to the raffle bin the business cards of attendees at our September event.

The more times you have attended our IFMA SFV events, the more your chances of winning the prizes. Stay tuned for the announcement of the WWP 06 Raffle Prize Winner – IT COULD BE YOU!

CHAPTER PINS

Your Executive Board and Extended Board are very pleased to announce that we have a new Chapter pin that we expect to be ready for distribution by World Workplace 2006! As you may know, the Chapter pin and badge exchange is a great and fun part of World Workplace. I recently heard from IFMA Chapters all throughout the US and beyond who are designing and ordering their badges/pins for WWP 06 and I believe ours will be among the best! Our very talented Chapter Administrator and Webmaster, Miguel Maldonado, designed several badges and your IFMA SFV Board selected one we just know you will enjoy. We look forward to presenting to all of our IFMA SFV WWP 06 attendees a bunch of our beautiful “blinking badges” to exchange and increase our reputation and visibility throughout the IFMA community. If you are not attending WWP 06, the badge will be distributed at Chapter meetings throughout the year. You’re gonna love ‘em!

DID YOU MISS THIS?

If you were a kid in the early seventies, were the parent of a kid in the early seventies or even turned on the television in the early seventies, you may have stumbled across a kids television program called "Hot Dog".

Every Saturday afternoon for about a year, Woody Allen, Jonathan Winters, Tommy Smothers and Joanne Worley would reveal to kids the secrets of how things were made and how they worked. Well, that’s just about what it was like last month! It was like we had stepped into the grown-up version of "Hot Dog" as we learned all about Beer!

After another hot San Fernando Valley day, it was a treat to be greeted by Anheuser Busch Brewmaster Raj and iced tubs of Bud beverages. Following this refreshing reception, it was amazing to see how the barley becomes the mash, the mash becomes the wort, the wort is brewed, the hops and yeast are combined and all ferments to become that beautiful amber elixir! Now that sounds pretty simple, but we learned that it is Anheuser Busch’s special and sophisticated processes and equipment that make their brand so special.

While the Brewhouse, with all the large computer screens monitoring the process, the huge barrels, the lauter tuns and the mash tuns was just one bit of evidence of Anheuser Busch’s special touch, it was the packaging facility that gave many of us a giggle! To see how swiftly a twelve pack is put together, sealed and sent off down the conveyer line or how, at the speed of lightening, reams of plastic rings instantly encircle the cans to become a six pack was fascinating and fun!

Of course, cameras were not permitted inside the Brewhouse or the Packaging Facilities, but do check out the Photo Gallery on our website for photos taken that evening by our Chapter Administrator and Webmaster, Miguel Maldonado.

Many thanks to Anheuser Busch for this not only excellent tour of their facilities, but also the yummy buffet following! We also extend our gratitude to our IFMA SFV Co-Vice President Roger Beck for arranging the event.

HELP WANTED!

I recently looked in the dictionary for the definition of “Secretary” and found the following definitions:  1.) “an officer of an organizational concern who may keep records of directors' and committees’ meetings and help supervise the organizations’ interests.” 2.)”a person to whom a secret is entrusted.”  Well, we have no “secrets” and the salary is zero to none but the rewards are many!  We are looking for your help to become our Chapter Secretary, keeping our “records” and helping to supervise our Chapter “interests.”  We already have the format and we try to make it easy to record our basic discussions and plans. If you are interested or would just like to learn more about this very important Chapter Executive Board office, please contact me at:
dianarb@adelphia.net  or 866-39DIANA (1-866-393-4262.)
Many of our Chapter Committees are a “committee of one” and we would really welcome your talents.  It may be just helping greet people at the door at our events or assisting with a sponsorship or membership drive. This is “your chapter” and we are asking for your help to get involved and make it what you want.  Your chapter really needs you to help our Chapter grow and become The Best!   The Executive and Extended Boards meet the first Tuesday of each month and we are considerate and appreciative of your time by keeping the meetings on track and efficient.  So, if you have an hour or two each month to volunteer, we really need you!

GET YOUR GOLF CLUBS AND TROPICAL ATTIRE READY!

One of the many things for which I am proud of our Chapter is the manner in which we partner with the IFMA Los Angeles Chapter to bring about the Annual Charity Golf Tournament -- a very special event that benefits worthy charities. The planning for this event is always evident on the morning of the Golf Tournament tee-off when everything comes together in a most magical way and concludes with the evening dinner, silent auction, dancing, great fun and an indescribable feeling that we have done something to make others lives a bit better.

If you would like to be part of this excellent experience, the 19th Annual Charity Golf Tournament Committee will be holding their first meeting on September 18th from 12:00 pm – 1:30 p.m. at the Allsteel Showroom, located at 444 Flower Street in Los Angeles. Lunch is always provided by Allsteel, one of our great sponsors. And if you would like to know more about the Golf Committee, you can contact Bonnie Batchley Summer or Kieran Wong, both of our members who give generously of their time for this worthy event. Please RSVP at our IFMA SFV website , get out your Hawaiian shirts, your Jimmy Buffet music and get ready to have fun working with your fellow Facilities Professionals and Associates toward this noble goal!

LAST WORDS – FOR NOW

Our San Fernando Valley Chapter was chartered by the International Facilities Management Association in 1987. You know what this means, don’t you? That’s right; it means we will be celebrating our 20th Anniversary next year! And I have to confess – I took a peak at what our Programs Chair, Holly Rau-
Bhattacharya, has in store for us and it is very exciting! If you would like to be part of the Programs Committee or even just have some great ideas for the programs, venues and/or sponsors, please contact Holly or any of the Executive Board or Extended Board members. There is a link to all of our e-mail addresses on the Executive Board Roster.

Thank you all for your ideas and support for your IFMA San Fernando Valley Chapter! See you at our next events! Let’s keep the momentum going and growing!
